How to Promote Employee Workplace Wellness
June is Professional Wellness Month! Workplace wellness extends far beyond physical fitness. It includes work-life balance, social health, opportunities for training and a whole lot more. When employee wellness is a priority at a company, then everyone is set up for success.
Here at Farm Bureau, employee wellness is a big part of our company culture, from employee onboarding to lunch-and-learn programs to every aspect of helping our team live healthy lives. We offer a variety of programs to help everyone pursue wellness both in the workplace and outside of it. Here are just some of the ways that we help our employees pursue wellness at Farm Bureau.
If you’re interested in working at Farm Bureau, or if you want to talk about policies that can help your employees be safe and well in your business, reach out to Farm Bureau to talk about your options.
Here at Farm Bureau, we recognize that wellness isn’t just about our bodies — it’s about minds, too. That means that we prioritize learning and growing. No matter what you want to learn about, the Learning and Development team can help you grow and gain skills that make you better at your job and progress in your career. They provide classes to help employees develop in a variety of areas, like business writing, customer service and more.
Our WINs group offers a speaker series on a wide range of topics, like social media and dressing for success, throughout the year. When you’re here, lunch and learn with us!
During the employee onboarding process at Farm Bureau, new employees are paired with an Ambassador. That Ambassador introduces them to company policies, norms and provides introductions to other team members throughout the differing departments.
The Ambassadors help employees network and find their social niche with the company to help them feel at home in their new position. That kind of social wellness helps new employees feel more comfortable in the workplace and builds relationships across the business.
Of course, physical wellness is a big part of our employees’ health, too. We have wellness centers in all of our regional offices as well as dedicated wellness specialists. To make it convenient for employees to maintain their physical wellness, we also have two full-time nurses and an onsite health clinic where doctors from the Iowa Clinic keep office hours. Making healthcare more convenient for our employees is an important part of helping them maintain their wellness.
We’re an insurance and financial services company, so we know the value of providing opportunities to employees to improve their own financial wellness. We offer educational opportunities to employees to learn more about retirement and 401(k) savings. We also provide a suite of employee benefits that are affordable and help them protect the financial well-being they are working hard to build.
How many companies encourage their employees to get outside in the middle of the workday? We’re proud of our agricultural roots, so we provide space for a community garden in West Des Moines that employees tend throughout the summer. Not only does it provide stress relief for the gardeners, but it also provides an avenue for philanthropy — we donated over 1,600 pounds of produce to the Food Bank of Iowa in 2025.
In addition to the Giving Garden, the home office provides other avenues for employees to get out and appreciate nature. The home office in West Des Moines sits on 67 acres of lush landscapes with a walking trail weaving through the campus. Employees only need to walk out the door to be surrounded by nature.
At Farm Bureau, we also value giving back to our communities. Our Social Responsibility Committee helps us focus our efforts on serving those in need. We focus on four main areas, set benchmarks and track our results each year: charitable contributions, volunteerism, outreach in the community and responsible citizenship. For example, in 2025, Farm Bureau Financial Services employees logged 13,797 hours using VTO (volunteer time off) and personal hours.
At Farm Bureau, we provide countless ways to grow your career. Want to learn more? Check out our current openings or join our Talent Network. And reach out to Farm Bureau to learn more about what we offer.
